David Jolly (born October 31, 1972) is an attorney and politician from Dunedin, Florida. He served as a Republican U.S. Representative for Florida's 13th Congressional District (Pinellas County) from 2014 to 2017. After leaving office he became a prominent critic of President Trump and a regular political commentator on CNN and MSNBC. He left the Republican Party in 2018, registered as an Independent, and officially joined the Democratic Party in April 2025. In June 2025 he announced his campaign for Governor of Florida, making him the leading Democratic candidate in the 2026 race. He received his B.A. from Emory University in 1994 and his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law in 2001. He and his wife Laura are raising their family in Pinellas County. Endorsed by former Congresswoman Gwen Graham and former HHS Secretary Donna Shalala. Campaign slogan: "Believe in Florida's Future."
The Governor of Florida is the chief executive of the state government. Powers include signing or vetoing legislation passed by the Florida Legislature, appointing cabinet members and judges, commanding the Florida National Guard, issuing executive orders, and managing the state budget. The Governor serves a four-year term and is limited to two consecutive terms under the Florida Constitution. Florida's Governor oversees one of the nation's largest state economies and a population of over 22 million residents.
