Joy B. Smith

Joy B. Smith is the Vice Mayor of the City of West Park, Florida, a nonpartisan office she holds as an elected member of the West Park City Commission representing Seat 3, having run in the November 5, 2024 general election. Before and during her time in office, she has been active in community development and civic engagement in the South Florida region, also contributing columns to local outlets including Miami's Community News. A passionate labor advocate, she previously served as a union steward at Fort Lauderdale Airport, championing worker benefits and fair wages before entering public office. She furthered her education at Lewisham College in London, where she earned certificates in business administration, and later attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. In 2022, Legacy Magazine honored Vice Mayor Smith as one of South Florida's most prominent and influential Black women in business and industry. She was born in England and raised in Jamaica, bringing an international perspective to her role representing one of Broward County's smaller incorporated municipalities. Her stated focus has been on fostering unity and economic growth in the West Park community, particularly in connection with the city's 20th anniversary of incorporation.

The Vice Mayor of West Park is a member of the West Park City Commission, the elected legislative and governing body of this small city-level municipality in Broward County, Florida. The role carries the same voting and policy-making responsibilities as a City Commissioner, with the additional designation of presiding over Commission meetings in the absence of the Mayor.
