Jay D. Schwartz serves as the District 2 Commissioner on the Pembroke Pines City Commission, a nonpartisan municipal office to which he was first elected on January 31, 2012, and subsequently re-elected in 2016, 2020, and 2024. A resident of Pembroke Pines since 1989, he was the first in his family to attend college, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Barry University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Nova Southeastern University. Outside of public office, he is a licensed FAA commercial pilot, certified flight instructor, and former dual-enrollment aviation teacher. Schwartz has been chosen by his colleagues to serve as Vice Mayor on four separate occasions: 2014โ2015, 2019, October 2020, and 2022. His legislative contributions focus heavily on accountability and community assets; he famously introduced a 2026 proposal requiring online ethics training for municipal staff and pushed for transparency regarding changes to the Frank C. Ortis Annual Golf Tournament benefiting the local Charter School Foundation. His tenure has also drawn intense local coverage; notably, in late 2025, an FDLE investigation into an interaction with high school students involving his ceremonial commission badge concluded with the State Attorney's Office clearing him of any criminal wrongdoing. He continues to prioritize municipal ethics, infrastructure, and constituent care for District 2.
The Pembroke Pines City Commissioner is a member of the City Commission, the legislative and governing body of Pembroke Pines, a municipal government in Broward County, Florida. Commissioners are responsible for setting city policy, adopting the municipal budget, enacting local ordinances, and providing oversight of city operations and services within their respective districts.
