Lori Lewellen

Lori Lewellen serves as a City Commissioner for the City of Dania Beach, Florida, a nonpartisan office she has held since first winning election to the commission in 2018. Because she secured the highest vote total in her inaugural race, she assumed the role of Mayor of Dania Beach from 2018 to 2020, guiding the city through the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. She previously ran for commission in 2016, narrowly missing a seat by only 14 votes, and served as Chair of the Dania Beach Planning and Zoning Board from 2016 to 2018. Outside of elected office, Lewellen is an accomplished trial attorney who has practiced civil litigation and defense since 2003, currently working with Billing, Cochran, Lyles, Mauro & Ramsey, P.A. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from The College of New Jersey in 1992 and a Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University's Shepard Broad Law Center in December 2002. On the commission, Lewellen serves as a fiscal watchdog and infrastructure advocate, helping oversee major citywide drainage and park revitalization projects. Her policy footprint extends regionally as an appointed member of the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Florida League of Cities Legislative Policy Committee on Transportation and Intergovernmental Relations.
