Fortuna Smukler

Fortuna Smukler is a Nonpartisan City Commissioner (Group 4) for the City of North Miami Beach, Florida, first appointed to the commission in 2018 to fill a seat vacated by Marlen Martell. Prior to her appointment, she was a community activist who served on multiple North Miami Beach city boards and committees, including as Chair of the Civil Service Board and the Multi-Cultural Committee. Her civic education includes graduation from the North Miami Beach Police Department Citizens Academy in 2010 and the FBI Citizens Academy in 2013. She was recognized with the NMBPD Community Champion Award in 2006, marking the beginning of her formal civic activism. She serves as 1st Vice President of the Miami-Dade County League of Cities, with the presidency slated for 2026, and also holds a seat on the Advocacy Board and the Finance and Taxation Board of the Florida League of Cities.

The City Commissioner is a member of the City of North Miami Beach's elected legislative and governing body, which operates at the municipal level of government. Commissioners are responsible for setting city policy, adopting the municipal budget, enacting local ordinances, and providing oversight of city administration and services.
