Idania Llanio

Idania Llanio is a Commissioner for the City of Sweetwater, Florida, representing the nonpartisan Group 4 seat. She achieved a notable political comeback in May 2021 when she returned to the city commission by ousting the incumbent Commission President, Cecelia Holtz-Alonso. Most recently, Llanio secured her seat through May 2029 by winning the May 13, 2025 municipal election with an overwhelming 77.7% of the vote against challenger Armando Chanlatte. Prior to her current legislative tenure, she served an earlier stint as a Sweetwater city commissioner and has been heavily active in local political initiatives. Outside of elected office, she has been associated with the Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, where she served in leadership roles as a lieutenant and squadron commander, contributing to youth aviation education programs in the west Miami-Dade area. She continues to serve a predominantly Cuban-American constituency on the Sweetwater City Commission.
