Joseph McHugh

Joseph McHugh is a longtime Coral Springs resident who spent nearly three decades in law enforcement before being elected to the City Commission in November 2024. After joining the Coral Springs Police Department in 1996, he climbed the ranks to Administrative Captain, served as the department spokesperson, and earned three Life Saving commendations. McHugh holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University and has lived in the city since 1993 with his wife, Monica, and their son, Cole. Deeply involved in the community, he served on the city's Development Review Committee and actively coaches youth ice hockey, including the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School team. Today, as the commissioner for Seat 5, his primary focus is on enhancing school safety, expanding mental health resources, keeping local parks beautiful, and supporting affordable housing for city workers.

The City Commissioner for Seat 5 is a member of the Coral Springs City Commission, the legislative and governing body of this Broward County municipal government. Commissioners are responsible for setting city policy, adopting the municipal budget, enacting local ordinances, and providing oversight of city operations and services.
