Shawn Cerra

Shawn Cerra is the elected City Commissioner for Seat 2 on the Coral Springs City Commission, having first been elected in June 2019 and sworn in for an additional term in November 2022. On December 7, 2022, he was appointed to serve as Vice Mayor by his fellow commissioners and served until December 4, 2024. Before entering elected office, Commissioner Cerra served for 14 years as Principal of J.P. Taravella High School — one of Broward County's largest high schools — before being promoted to Director of Athletics for Broward County Public Schools. He earned a bachelor's degree in Social Science Education from the University of South Florida and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University. Commissioner Cerra has also served in the role of Vice Mayor of Coral Springs, reflecting the confidence of his fellow commissioners in his leadership. He is a longtime Coral Springs resident, having lived in the city since 1993, and has been recognized for bringing a background in public service and community engagement to his legislative work on the Commission.
