Joshua Simmons

Joshua Simmons serves as City Commissioner for Seat 4 in Coral Springs, Florida, a nonpartisan office to which he was first elected in November 2018, making him the first African American Commissioner in Coral Springs history, and was sworn in for a second term in November 2022. Before and during his time on the Commission, Simmons worked as a high school educator at Coral Springs High School, teaching government, economics, and world history for Broward County Public Schools, and previously worked as a mental health therapist. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master's degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University. As a commissioner he also served in the role of Vice Mayor, again making history as the first African American to hold that position in the city. Simmons has announced his candidacy for Coral Springs Mayor in 2026, challenging incumbent Mayor Scott Brook.
