Robert McKinzie

Robert L. McKinzie is the elected Broward County Commissioner representing District 8 and currently serves as Vice Mayor of Broward County, Florida, a role to which he was selected by his fellow commissioners in 2025 to serve a one-year term. Prior to serving on the County Commission, McKinzie was involved in business and construction, having worked with Harper and Sons Construction, Inc., and has long been engaged in civic affairs in the Fort Lauderdale community. He is a native of Fort Lauderdale who graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. McKinzie has served on the Broward County Housing Finance Authority, reflecting a focus on affordable housing and community development issues. He was selected to serve as Vice Mayor alongside Mayor Mark Bogen following the conclusion of Commissioner Beam Furr's mayoral term. In his current role, McKinzie has focused on constituent services, economic development, and quality-of-life issues for the residents of District 8.

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is the legislative and governing body of Broward County, Florida, a charter county government. The Vice Mayor assists the Mayor in presiding over commission meetings, assumes mayoral duties in the Mayor's absence, and shares in the board's responsibilities of setting county policy, adopting the annual budget, and overseeing county services and administration.
