First elected to the county commission in November 2014, he brings extensive local governance experience, having previously served as a Hollywood City Commissioner for 12 consecutive years representing District 2. His leadership on the county level is highly distinguished; his peers selected him to serve a full term as the Broward County Mayor from 2017 to 2018. Prior to entering public office, Furr dedicated 25 years to public education as a social studies teacher and a library media specialist at Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines. Deeply connected to the community he represents, he grew up in Hallandale, graduated from South Broward High School, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and Education alongside a Master of Library Science. On the county commission, Furr has established a strong reputation as a champion for environmental issues and regional planning, currently chairing the Broward County Solid Waste Authority and the Broward County Water Advisory Board, while also serving as co-chair of the Broward Climate Change Task Force.
