Gwen Myers

Gwen Myers is an American retired public administrator and Democratic politician serving as the Hillsborough County Commissioner for District 3. She was first elected in November 2020 to succeed retiring Commissioner Les Miller. While your previous bio noted a 2022 re-election, a helpful correction is that she was actually re-elected without opposition in June 2022 after no other candidates qualified to run against her, securing an automatic four-year term that runs through November 16, 2026. A lifelong resident of Hillsborough County, Myers earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Before entering elected office, she spent 25 years working directly within Hillsborough County government (1988–2013) across the departments of Housing and Community Development as well as Health and Social Services, bringing deep operational experience to her role. Operating under her signature campaign theme, "It's About The People," Myers focuses heavily on expanding access to affordable housing, expanding public transit options, and strengthening community health initiatives. Notably, she is the lead champion for the planned construction of the new African American Arts and Cultural Center in West Tampa. She represents the county on several influential regional boards, serving as Chair of the Environmental Protection Commission and holding seats on the Children's Board of Hillsborough County, the Early Learning Coalition, and the Hillsborough Transit Authority (HART).
