Natalie Milian Orbis is the Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 6, appointed by the Commission on May 6, 2025 to fill the seat vacated by Kevin Marino Cabrera who resigned to become U.S. Ambassador to Panama under President Trump. She will hold the seat until the 2026 election. Milian Orbis, 38, brings nearly two decades of county government experience to the role β she began as a legislative aide to former Commissioner Rebeca Sosa and later worked for Commissioners Joe Martinez and Juan Zapata. Her husband, Manuel Orbis, was Cabrera's Chief of Staff. She served on the West Miami City Commission beginning in January 2024 β first by appointment, then winning a full four-year term in August 2024 by 28 votes. She also served as Director of the Miami-Dade Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board, a position she had to relinquish upon taking her county commission seat. She also filed paperwork to run for the District 6 seat in the upcoming election. District 6 covers a heavily Hispanic area of western Miami-Dade including all or parts of Coral Gables, Hialeah, Miami, Miami Springs, Virginia Gardens, and West Miami.
Miami-Dade County Commissioners represent one of 13 districts and serve four-year terms. Commissioners set county policy, vote on legislation and resolutions, approve the annual budget, review development plans, and represent their constituents before the full Board of County Commissioners. The Commission serves as Miami-Dade's primary legislative and policy-making body overseeing a county government of approximately 23,000 employees and a $12 billion annual budget serving nearly 3 million residents.
