Alex Lama

Alex Lama serves as the Seat 2 Commissioner on the nonpartisan, five-member [Sunny Isles Beach City Commission](1.1.2, 1.1.4). He won his initial runoff election in December 2018 with approximately 61 percent of the vote, defeating opponent David Grossman. His current four-year term began on November 22, 2022, and runs until November 3, 2026. Born in Michigan and raised in El Salvador, Lama has been a resident of Sunny Isles Beach since 1988. He is an alumnus of Florida International University, where he earned a degree in advertising with a minor in marketing. Before entering public office, he built a 20-year career as an advertising executive for major media and telecommunications firms. Prior to his election, Lama served on the city's resident advisory committee starting in April 2018 and was actively involved with the NSE/SIB K-8 School Parent Teacher Association and his local church. As a commissioner representing the central section of the city, Lama focuses his civic initiatives on community wellness, local education, traffic mitigation, and pedestrian safety.
