Angelo Castillo is a Cuban-born American politician serving as Mayor of the City of Pembroke Pines, Florida, elected in March 2024 and sworn into office in April 2024, making him the city's 12th Mayor. Prior to his election as Mayor, he served on the Pembroke Pines City Commission beginning in 2004, becoming the first Hispanic American elected to the Commission in 30 years; he also served on the command staff of the Broward Sheriff's Office and held executive roles under New York City mayors Ed Koch, David Dinkins, and Rudy Giuliani, as well as Governors Mario Cuomo and George Pataki, and returned to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as Deputy State Coordinator for Florida in 2000. He also previously applied his administrative expertise locally as the Director of Human Services for Broward County, where he managed a $250 million budget and 1,200 employees. He earned an academic and athletic scholarship to Wagner College, where he completed a degree in business administration and an MBA in finance. Castillo is the first mayor of Hispanic origin in Pembroke Pines history, and his election marked the city's first change in mayoral leadership in approximately 20 years. He also served as President and CEO of a nonprofit corporation from 2003 to 2013 and as an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University's Graduate School of Management.
