Caryl Shuham

Caryl S. Shuham is the District 1 Commissioner for the City of Hollywood, Florida, a lifelong Democrat who was first elected to the Hollywood City Commission in 2018 and re-elected without opposition in 2022. Before serving on the commission, she worked as an attorney for more than 35 years, representing companies across a range of legal matters. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland. She completed the Florida League of Cities Institute for Elected Municipal Officials and received a Certificate of Achievement from the Broward County Leaders Water and Climate Academy. She has served on the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization Board, the Broward County Climate Change Task Force, and the Broward County Solid Waste Authority Board and its Executive Committee. As of 2026, she has declared her candidacy for a seat on the Broward County Commission rather than seeking re-election to her current city seat.
