Clemente Canabal

Clemente Canabal serves as the Councilman representing Council Seat #6 (the Oasis area) on the Homestead City Council, a nonpartisan municipal office he attained through election on November 7, 2023, by securing 50.59% of the vote to defeat opponent Toshiba Mitchell by a margin of 29 votes. Before entering elected office, Canabal built a career in medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences of Santiago de Cuba, and later transitioned into entrepreneurship by owning and managing local home healthcare agencies after immigrating to the United States from Cuba in 1994. Prior to his council tenure, he served the community as an appointed member of the Homestead Charter Review Committee and received the official endorsement of Mayor Steven D. Losner during his campaign. He was formally sworn into office on November 13, 2023, where his legislative priorities center on transformational leadership, traffic mitigation, public safety upgrades, and managing smart infrastructure growth. His current term runs continuously through November 2027.
