Miami Times interview · March 26, 2025
The Record
Councilwoman Wilson first introduced a resolution in June 2024 to extend Miami Gardens council term limits from two four-year terms to three — a change that would require a charter amendment. The proposal was decisively rejected by the city's Charter Review Committee and faced strong public opposition. Wilson reintroduced the resolution on March 26, 2025. Dozens of residents packed City Hall to oppose it. The meeting erupted into chaos requiring police intervention. A special election to put the question to voters would cost taxpayers approximately $200,000. Wilson pulled the item following the public outcry. As of April 2026 the proposal has not been brought back to the council agenda. Wilson is currently running for re-election to Seat 4 in the August 18 2026 general election.
