Ken Hagan is an American business professional and Republican politician currently serving as the Hillsborough County Commissioner for District 2. First elected in November 2002, Hagan has served continuously for over two decadesβ€”alternating between District 2 and the countywide District 5 seatβ€”making him the longest-serving member of the current board. A native of Hillsborough County, he built a solid private-sector foundation by earning a Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Florida and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tampa. Throughout his extensive tenure, the fiscal conservative has voted more than 20 times to lower property taxes and championed aggressive economic development, animal protection policies, and regional film industry expansion. Recognized as a major power broker and a key bipartisan swing vote on infrastructure and transit, Hagan has been chosen by his peers to serve as Board Chairman an unprecedented nine times. He represents the county on vital boards, including Visit Tampa Bay, the Tampa/Hillsborough Expressway Authority, and the Tampa Sports Authority, where he serves as the county's leading negotiator in efforts to fund and secure a new stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Hillsborough County Commissioner is an elected position within the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, the legislative and executive governing body of Hillsborough County, Florida. Commissioners are responsible for adopting the county budget, setting tax rates, enacting local ordinances, overseeing county services, and making policy decisions affecting unincorporated Hillsborough County and countywide functions.
