Larisa Svechin

Larisa Svechin serves as Mayor of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, a nonpartisan elected office she has held following her election to a four-year term in November 2022. Before entering public service, she built an executive career in global advertising, serving as a Senior Vice President managing over $300 million in print media accounts at one of the world's largest advertising agencies, and also managed restaurants in New York City's Greenwich Village. She earned an associate degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy and Ethics from The New School University, and later completed a Master of Liberal Arts in Psychology alongside a graduate certificate in Philosophy & Ethics from Harvard University. She is notably recognized as the first Russian-speaking, first Belarusian-born, and first female mayor in the city's history, having immigrated to the United States under Religious Asylum from the former USSR as a 6-year-old in 1979 and graduating from North Miami Beach Senior High School. In 2025, she was named a Home Rule Hero by the Florida League of Cities for her dedicated municipal advocacy before state lawmakers. Her ongoing priorities center on listening to residents, implementing strict fiscal discipline, enhancing public safety infrastructure, and defending the community' as she seeks re-election in the upcoming November 3, 2026 municipal general election.
