Maria Sachs

Maria Sachs is the District 5 Commissioner for Palm Beach County, representing southwestern suburban communities west of Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Boynton Beach. A member of the Democratic Party, Sachs was first elected to the county commission in 2020 and won re-election to a four-year term in November 2024, meaning she is not on the ballot again until November 2028. She served as the County Mayor from November 2023 to November 2024 and boasts an extensive legislative background, having previously served two terms in the Florida House of Representatives and two terms in the Florida Senate. Beyond her political career, Sachs holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, a master's degree from Boston University, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami Law School. Early in her legal career, she served as an assistant state attorney prosecuting major crimes under Janet Reno in Miami-Dade County, later practicing as a partner at Sachs, Augspurger & White, P.A., and founding the Coalition Against Human Trafficking. Today, she balances her county commission duties with civic board leadership, centering her current governing focus on juvenile justice rehabilitation, regional public safety, and expanding environmental protections for South Florida families.
