Michael Udine is a Democratic Broward County Commissioner representing District 3β€”covering Parkland, Coral Springs, and parts of Tamarac, Sunrise, and North Lauderdaleβ€”and recently secured a new four-year term running through November 2028. Before his election to the county commission in November 2016, Udine spent 13 years serving the City of Parkland, first as a City Commissioner starting in 2003 and then as Mayor from 2006 to 2016. Aside from his political career, he has been a practicing attorney for over 35 years, graduating from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1990 (rather than 1989) and managing his family law firm, Udine & Udine, which specializes in real estate, banking, and insurance subrogation law. He also previously served as a board member for Legacy Bank of Florida for a decade before its successful acquisition by Seacoast Bank. On the county level, he was selected by his peers to serve as Vice Mayor in November 2020 and as Broward County Mayor from November 2021 to November 2022. His time in office has been deeply defined by prioritizing public safety, notably leading the effort to complete Broward's advanced "Text to 911" emergency system and focusing heavily on regional mental health and small business expansion.
The Broward County Commission is the legislative and governing body of Broward County, Florida, a county-level branch of government. Commissioners set county policy, adopt the annual budget, enact ordinances, and oversee county services including transportation, parks, environmental protection, and public safety.
