Miguel Angel Gabela was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States in 1970 at the age of six. He has been a longtime resident of Miami's District 1, encompassing the neighborhoods of Flagami, Allapattah, and parts of Little Havana. Gabela founded his own business approximately 40 years ago and has operated it within District 1. Prior to his election as commissioner, he served on the City of Miami Zoning Board, where he advocated for individual property rights. He was elected City of Miami Commissioner for District 1 in the November 2023 general election.
