Phyllis Smith

Phyllis S. Smith serves as a City Commissioner for the City of North Miami Beach, Florida, a nonpartisan municipal office to which she was first elected in May 2007. She served continuously until she was term-limited in November 2020, but she successfully returned to governance after being re-elected to a new four-year term in November 2022. Outside of her civic duties, Smith has built a remarkable 47-year career in real estate as a licensed Broker and Salesperson. A proud graduate of North Miami Senior High School (Class of 1964), she has been a resident of the city for over 53 years, where she lives with her husband of 59 years, Woody. Smith completed numerous state and local Florida League of Cities courses to enhance her policy expertise. Throughout her extensive tenure, she has been a consistent advocate for community improvements, infrastructure, and age-friendly initiatives for seniors. She will continue to serve her current term leading up to the November 2026 municipal election cycle.

The City Commissioner is a member of the legislative and governing body of the City of North Miami Beach, a municipal government in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Commissioners are responsible for setting city policy, adopting the municipal budget, enacting local ordinances, and providing oversight of city administration and services.
