"I will fight to bring more transportation options to District 13 and reduce the traffic congestion that affects our families every single day."
Campaign René García Campaign Website · renegarciacommissioner.com · 2020
As Commissioner, García supported the SMART Plan corridor development for the North Corridor and advocated for expanded bus routes serving District 13 communities including Doral and Sweetwater. He voted in favor of Miami-Dade's transportation surtax spending plan in 2022 to fund transit improvements. However, major transit construction in the district remains in planning phases, and residents continue to experience significant congestion on key corridors like NW 36th Street and NW 107th Avenue.

René García is the Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 13, first elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2024. Born and raised in the City of Hialeah, he has deep roots in Northwest Dade and began his public service career as a Hialeah City Councilman more than 20 years ago. He earned his B.S. from Florida International University and his MBA from the University of Miami. He previously served as Vice President of Community Relations at Dade Medical College. He served in the Florida House of Representatives before being elected to the Florida State Senate, where he served multiple terms representing parts of Miami-Dade County.
