Steve Geller

Steve Geller is a Democratic Broward County Commissioner representing District 5—covering Davie, Cooper City, and parts of Plantation, Sunrise, and Southwest Ranches—and recently secured a four-year term running through November 2028. First elected to the commission in 2016, Geller brings extensive legislative experience, having previously served 20 years in the Florida Legislature from 1988 to 2008. His legislative career consisted of nine years in the Florida House of Representatives and eleven years in the Florida Senate, culminating in his selection as the Senate Democratic Leader from 2006 to 2008. Unlike assumptions regarding an unconfirmed academic background, Geller is a highly credentialed attorney who earned both a Bachelor of Arts in history (1979) and a Juris Doctor (1982) from Florida State University. He has practiced law for over 40 years, specializing in land use, zoning, and gaming law, and currently runs the Geller Law Firm, P.A.. On the county commission, he served a full term as Broward County Mayor from November 2020 to November 2021, and he currently chairs the South Florida Regional Planning Council, the Southeast Florida Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Committee, and the Broward County Water Advisory Board. His major county achievements include creating the "Film Lauderdale" county film commission, passing a sweeping 2025 retail battery recycling ordinance, and continuously prioritizing regional water management, public infrastructure, and arts development.
