Rutherford voted in favor of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) on May 4, 2017, during the 115th Congress, fulfilling his pledge to vote to repeal and replace the ACA at the House level. The Senate failed to pass any replacement bill, leaving the ACA intact. In late 2025, Congress debated the expiration of ACA subsidies; Rutherford did not publicly support extending them, and the Senate ultimately rejected both a Democratic extension bill and a Republican HSA alternative in December 2025. John H. Rutherford is the U.S. Representative for Florida's 5th Congressional District, affiliated with the Republican Party, having been first elected in 2016 and most recently reelected in 2024.
