The Record
On July 10, 2025, Wasserman Schultz traveled to New Orleans to participate in a Democratic town hall at Xavier University, joining House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and other top Democrats in publicly opposing Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill,' a Republican tax and spending law that had just been passed. She described the event as 'step one' in Democrats' strategy to educate voters about what they would lose, citing CBO projections that the law would strip health coverage from approximately 11.8 million Americans, including roughly 2 million Floridians and 90,000 in her own district. Jeffries framed the event as the first stop on a nationwide tour. As of May 28, 2026, Wasserman Schultz has not sponsored enacted counter-legislation reversing the health care cuts, meaning her advocacy commitment is active but the substantive policy goal remains unachieved while she is in the minority.

The Promise
"As a 15-year cancer survivor, confronting it head-on, with an all-hands-on-deck approach, is my personal and professional mission. With the Comprehensive Cancer Survivorship Act, I am proud to introduce far-reaching legislation that better enables cancer survivors to choose their own path, provides them with agency and autonomy over their personal health experiences and decisions."

The Record
Wasserman Schultz has championed cancer survivorship legislation across multiple Congresses as a breast cancer survivor diagnosed in 2008. She led the bipartisan Comprehensive Cancer Survivorship Act (CCSA), reintroduced in September 2023 with Senators Klobuchar and Cardin and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, which would address gaps in survivorship care and develop minimum standards of patient-centered care and navigation services. She hosted the first Cancer Survivorship Summit on October 16, 2023, alongside First Lady Dr. Jill Biden at Nova Southeastern University, and a second summit on September 6, 2025. In the 119th Congress, she introduced H.R.8839 on May 14, 2026 β the Lainie Jones Comprehensive Cancer Survivorship Act β with eight co-sponsors, referred to three committees including Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, and Education and Workforce. As of May 28, 2026, no version of the legislation has been enacted into law, with Republican House leadership blocking floor consideration consistent with the pattern of minority-party healthcare legislation.
