Maria Salazar

María Elvira Salazar is the U.S. Representative for Florida's 27th Congressional District, a Republican who was first elected in November 2020 and has served since January 3, 2021. Before serving in Congress, Salazar had a distinguished career as a broadcast journalist, reporting for major Spanish-language television networks including Telemundo and Univision, with a focus on Latin American affairs. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Miami and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Salazar has been a prominent advocate for immigration reform, introducing the Dignity Act, a bipartisan proposal aimed at addressing the status of undocumented immigrants while strengthening border security. In 2026, she was honored by the Recording Academy as a Congressional Honoree at the 25th Anniversary of GRAMMYs on the Hill. She continues to focus on issues affecting South Florida's large Cuban-American and Hispanic communities, as well as democracy and human rights in Latin America.
