Require Police Body Cameras and Increase Law Enforcement Transparency
Public Safety
◐ Partial
"I will fight to require body cameras for law enforcement officers across Florida to ensure transparency and accountability between police and the communities they serve."
Campaign shevrinjones.com · Campaign platform / House legislative record · 2016
As a Florida House member (2012–2020), Jones championed legislation requiring police body cameras across Florida law enforcement agencies, making it a signature transparency initiative. The effort advanced the statewide conversation on body camera adoption but a universal statewide mandate was never enacted into law. As a State Senator, Jones continued filing legislation on law enforcement-community relations and transparency. Florida still lacks a statewide body camera mandate as of 2026.

Protect Floridians from Sudden Loss of Health Insurance Coverage
Healthcare
⊘ Blocked
"People are scared. People are anxious. People don't know if their government is working for them. Protecting people's pocketbooks means making sure they can keep their doctor."
News Source Miami Times · Florida Politics · January 2026
Sponsored SB 114, the Continuity of Care in Health Insurance Contracts bill, inspired by Florida Blue's sudden removal of Memorial Healthcare System from its in-network provider list, which disrupted care for tens of thousands of South Florida patients. The bill would have required insurers to maintain continuity of care protections when dropping providers from their networks mid-contract. Despite being a top priority for Jones entering the 2026 session, SB 114 died in the Banking and Insurance committee when the regular session ended March 13, 2026.

Protect At-Risk Youth and Vulnerable Floridians
Government Reform
◐ Partial
"We must do more to protect Florida's most vulnerable residents — children in state custody, domestic violence survivors, and those with disabilities. Our goal this session is to show people that we hear them, see them and are trying to execute for them."
News Source Miami Times · Florida Politics · January 2026
In 2025 Jones carried four bills targeting vulnerable youth including SB 1272, which cleared committee unanimously and would limit a legal guardian's authority to restrict a ward's access to family and friends while protecting adult wards from isolation. In 2026 he filed SB 516 (Domestic Violence Centers) and SB 170 (Emergency Relief for Families) — both died when session ended March 13. Jones has filed protective legislation for vulnerable residents every session since 2020, consistently prioritizing kids in state custody, domestic violence survivors, and those with disabilities.

Support Teachers and Improve Failing Schools
Education
⊘ Blocked
"As a former teacher, I know what it takes to walk into a classroom every day in a school that needs more support. We owe it to our kids to give their teachers the tools they need."
News Source shevrinjones.com · SB 182 sponsorship 2026
Sponsored SB 182, the School Teacher Training and Mentoring Program, which would place experienced and retired teachers in D- and F-rated schools to mentor newer educators. The bill passed the Senate Fiscal Policy Committee unanimously and advanced through the Senate. However, the House companion bill stalled in committee and the measure did not reach the governor's desk during the 2026 regular session. The engrossment/session-end date should be verified, as other 2026 session bills are recorded as dying on March 13, 2026. Jones has consistently filed teacher support legislation, reflecting his background as a former AP Chemistry teacher in Broward County Public Schools.

Improve Law Enforcement Interactions with Autistic Individuals
Public Safety
✓ Kept
"I have heard concerns from families about interactions between individuals with ASD and law enforcement. This bill provides additional tools to support officers in those moments."
Gov. Record SB 418 Senate floor statement · February 2026
Sponsored SB 418, requiring law enforcement officers to receive training on recognizing and de-escalating situations involving individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Established a 'blue envelope' program allowing families to provide ASD documentation to officers during traffic stops and interactions. The bill passed the Florida Senate 38-0 and was ordered enrolled on March 11, 2026. Verification is needed on whether the bill also passed the House and was signed into law by the governor — if enrollment indicates final passage of both chambers, 'Kept' is correct. The bill addressed an urgent community need, particularly in Miami Gardens and surrounding districts.

Improve Sickle Cell Disease Care for Florida Patients
Healthcare
✓ Kept
"Black and Brown communities have been disproportionately impacted by sickle cell disease. Florida must do better for these patients."
Gov. Record SB 844 testimony and sponsorship · Florida Senate · February 2026
Sponsored SB 844, the Sickle Cell Disease Care Management and Treatment Continuing Education Act, requiring physicians and advanced practitioners authorized to prescribe controlled substances to complete continuing education on sickle cell disease care, treatment, and pain management. The bill passed the Florida Senate unanimously 37-0 on February 25, 2026 and the House 113-0 on March 11, 2026 — one of only a handful of Jones bills to become law. Signed into law as Chapter 2026-6. Florida Medicaid has one of the highest sickle cell patient populations in the country. More than 90% of sickle cell patients are Black or African American.
